Boring. For some, Levi’s 501 jeans is boring, for others it would be instant classic. Same with Rolex. Rolex is probably the most copied watch on the planet. Is that a proof of a ‘boring’ or a proof of ‘classic’? 

Even better than the quality of their watches is the quality and effectiveness of Rolex's advertising themselves as a high end lifestyle brand such that they are the McDonald's of horology.

They are the entry level luxury watch that people who don't know a thing about watches aspire to because Rolex has convinced them that they want a Rolex instead of something/anything else.

Especially if they want people to notice their watch.

Because even a homeless guy will say hey brother can you spare a couple of bucks so I can get a meal? Hey, nice Rolex! Make it $5 bucks.

Why do watch collectors dislike Rolex?
